||Argentina : The process of modernization of the Buenos Aires Port advances
||The Ministry of Transportation approved the content of the bidding documents of the national and international public tender to operate the Port as part of the process initiated last December.
The next step is for the General Ports Administration to call for bids in the coming days.
The winning company must continue the expansion works underway and will require an investment of 760 million dollars in the first 10 years.
In addition, being a single operator, the maximum rates will be established by contract to ensure greater transparency and competitiveness.
The renewal of the port infrastructure will double the current cargo capacity and will have a flexible design, adaptable to the needs of the market in a more competitive and sustainable way.
The project will also generate new green and recreational spaces for the community, integrating with the Paseo del Bajo and the Young District.
Puerto Buenos Aires has already carried out expansion works for 75 million dollars that allowed to gain 9 hectares for logistic operations in the Drsena F and 15 hectares north of the sixth breakwater that will function as an external cargo terminal, as in the main ports of the world, and will allow the entry of larger vessels with greater cargo capacity.
The new design will reduce logistics times and costs, in addition to the improvements in railway accesses that are carried out for the benefit of the most remote provinces.
The trucks will have unique access and a larger and better equipped waiting area, while the barges will have a dock with exclusive priority.
Since December 2015, the Government reduced the export logistics costs by 61 percent and the import costs by 21 percent in the port of Buenos Aires, as part of the measures that enhanced foreign trade and contributed to the recovery of the economies regional offices and job creation.
